Catalyxx wins the Santander X Global Challenge and strengthens its position as a circular economy leader

An international award recognizing Catalyxx as a winner among more than 1,000 companies from 11 countries

Catalyxx has been awarded in the scaleup category of the Santander X Global Challenge | Circular Economy Revolution, a prestigious international competition that brought together over 1,000 innovative companies from 11 countries. The recognition highlights our commitment to delivering high-impact, sustainable solutions for the global chemical industry.

Our proprietary catalytic process transforms bioethanol into high-value renewable chemicals—biobutanol, biohexanol, biooctanol, and biodecanol—that can replace fossil-based derivatives in paints, adhesives, resins, and cosmetics. The technology not only reduces production costs but also delivers a net-negative carbon footprint, aligning industrial performance with climate goals.

“Receiving this award motivates us to keep scaling and positioning our technology as a global benchmark for sustainable chemistry,” says Joaquín Alarcón de la Lastra, CEO and founder of Catalyxx.

The initiative allocates €120,000 in awards and provides access to the Santander X 100 network, a global platform that connects high-potential ventures with visibility, strategic partners, and investment opportunities.

This achievement reinforces the momentum Catalyxx has built in recent months. Over the past year, we’ve secured €18 million in funding from strategic partners including Aether Chemical Investments, the European Innovation Council Accelerator, and Axon Partners Group. In May 2025, we received a €37 million pre-approval from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance the construction of our first commercial-scale plant in northern France.

We remain focused on scaling our technology and driving the green transformation of the chemical industry.
